The San Antonio Mexico Foundation for Education (SAMFE) is a sister organization to SAMFCO, created to provide scholarships to graduate students from Mexico studying at institutions in San Antonio and for San Antonio graduate students wanting to study at a Mexican university. Proceeds from SAMFCO’s annual “Noche de Amistad” gala go toward these scholarships. Funds are administered through the San Antonio Area Foundation.
SAMFE Ruben Escobedo Scholarship Program SAMFE has partnered with the World Affairs Council of San Antonio to promote and coordinate the SAMFE international scholarship program, named for Ruben Escobedo, one of the founders of SAMFCO and a great champion of higher education. Currently, these scholarships are available through participating universities based on the following criteria:
• The student must be from Mexico.
• The student must be enrolled in a two-year graduate study program.
• The student would be screened and awarded the scholarship through the university’s recruitment process.
• The university that receives the scholarship award must provide funds equal to or greater than the $5,000 awarded per student, per year (for a two-year period). Beginning in Fall 2012 up to three new scholarships will be awarded each year (each is a two-year scholarship). Participating universities will select the recipients based on academic performance, area of study and need.
